Institutional cooperation with universities in Rwanda

The University of Parma, at the proposal of the CUCI, signed a cooperation agreement with each of the following Rwandan universities:

• University of Rwanda
• Institute of Applied Sciences INES-Ruhengeri

The project, which started in December 2017 and is still ongoing, has the following thematic areas of intervention::

1. Civil Engineering
2. ICT
3. Psychology
4. Medicine
5. Pharmacy
6. Food technology
7. Agri-food Economy

The cooperation agreement concluded with each of the Rwandan institutions provides for:

• staff exchange and staff development programmes;
• students exchange;
• joint research projects carried out by researchers from both universities;
• mutual assistance for the creation of new programmes;
• joint mobilisation of resources for research and academic activities;
• exchange of information and publications;
• conferences and workshops organization.

The activities carried out vary according to the thematic area of intervention:

• for Civil Engineering and ICT: teaching periods take place at INES-Ruhengeri; student exchanges in the same fields and at the same location are also possible under the Overworld and Erasmus projects;

• for Psychology: seminars, traineeships and research internships take place within the Overworld and Erasmus projects at the University of Rwanda;

• for Pharmacy and Food Technology: there are internships and research placements within the Overworld and Erasmus projects at INES-Ruhengeri;

• for Agri-Food Economy: internships and research placements are carried out as part of the Overworld and Erasmus projects at INES-Ruhengeri; ongoing research is aimed at collecting information to improve the degree of food security of smallholders in Rwanda, taking into account production characteristics and farming households, with the objective of defining a model to simulate the production and food choices of farming households;

• for Medicine: placements are carried out within the Overworld and Erasmus projects at the University of Rwanda;

• Progetto Erasmus+ Capacity Building EnRHEd (2020-2023): oltre all’Università del Rwanda e INES-Ruhengeri coinvolge altre due istituzioni Rwandesi: IPRC-Musanze e University of Arts and Technology of Byumba;
