CUCI of the University of Parma Participates in Public Seminar on “Landslide Risk and Mitigation” at Madda Walabu University

Bale-Robe, Ethiopia – 30 January 2026 – The University Centre for International Cooperation (CUCI) at the University of Parma, under the direction of Professor Roberto Valentino, participated in the public seminar titled “Landslide Risk and Mitigation: Examples from Italy and East Africa”, hosted by Madda Walabu University (MWU) Ethiopia. This initiative is part of MWU’s efforts to strengthen international collaboration and promote academic internationalization.

The opening ceremony featured a welcome speech by Dr. Teshome Sirak, representative of the President’s Office, who highlighted the importance of such seminars in enhancing the capacity of university researchers to conduct high-level studies and gain international experience. He also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting academic staff in teaching, research, and community service, providing a conducive environment for academic development.

Professor Roberto Valentino shared his teaching and research experience and introduced the role of CUCI as the University of Parma’s hub for international cooperation. He presented a detailed paper on methodologies and models applicable to the study of landslide risk and mitigation strategies, illustrating practical examples from Italy and several African countries, including Ethiopia, to make the discussion both concrete and lasting.

The session concluded with a lively discussion, during which participants raised several questions and reflections, which Professor Valentino addressed. Future directions were also outlined to strengthen the partnership between the two universities and foster further academic and scientific collaboration.

The CUCI of the University of Parma reaffirms its commitment to promoting the international exchange of knowledge and best practices, contributing to the development of researchers capable of addressing global challenges through scientific and cooperative approaches.
